How do I sell a membership to a child under 18?

Please note, it is the policy of the YMCA of the North Shore that a parent or guardian must complete the membership registration for anyone under the age of 18. Memberships should not be sold to anyone under this age without a parent or guardian.

To Sell a New 18 & Under Membership

1. A family may choose to sign up a youth or teen family member, without enrolling in a whole Family Membership. In order to sign up for a Youth or Teen membership, a member over the age of 18 must be present to sign up for the membership and be listed on their account as a payer. To avoid duplicate accounts in the system, first search for both the Adult and the Teen/Youth.

2. If there are no records found, click on the Membership tab at the top of the page and select "Add Unit."

3. Click "Child 18 and Under"

4. Enter the information for the Adult FIRST as they are going to be the primary contact for this member. Use M2. Entry of a Facility Member to complete the account set up.

5. Once you arrive at the page below, a note will appear alerting you that the membership type rules are not met. That is because we are just adding this adult as an inactive member on the unit. Click on the "Youth " or "Teen" buttons to begin adding the Active Member to the unit.

6. Enter all of the information for the Youth/Teen member and click "Next."

7. On the next page, you can see that Tony is added as the primary adult and is Inactive. Jenny has been added as an Active Teen member. Click the "Next" button.

8. Have the Primary Member review the Waiver Agreements, click "Accept and Sign," and sign their names.

9. Use the dropdown menu to select a billing date and click "Next."

10. On the Payment Method page, click on the dropdown menu next to Billing Method and Add or Select the Billing Method to be use for the monthly draft.

11. Click the "Next" button when done.

12. At this time, orientations are not set up at this location so click on the "Skip, I'll Schedule This Later" button.

13. Click the "Make a Payment" button to collect the prorated dues.

14. Review the charges and click on "Make a Payment."

15. Select the Payment Method to be used and click Submit.

16. Print or Email the Receipt to the Primary Member.

17. Use the breadcrumb trail to return back to the Membership Information page.

18. Here you can see that Jenny now has an active Teen Membership with her guardian Tony attached at the Primary inactive member. Click on the barcode icon to setup and send Jenny her scan card. Use the camera icon to take Jenny'e member photo.
